Word Lens for Android Brings Offline, Visual Language Translations to Your Android Phone

The Android version of Word Lens including completely offline translations (which even Google Translate can't do, although Google Translate is built-in and supports more languages) and the whole "hold your phone up to a sign or print to see it in English" feature that makes the app so mind-blowing.

The app works like a charm, and while it doesn't always perfectly match the typeface of the signage you might try to read, it does make the translated text large and easy to read, tries to match the size and shape of it, and it does all of its translations on the fly. If you see something you want to review later, press the "pause" button to snap and hold it so you can take your time reading.

Word Lens for Android has the same pricing structure as the iOS version. There's a free "demo" version that lets you get a feel for the app and how it works, but when you're ready to really use it, you'll have to drop $4.99 for the app, and that includes one language pack (Spanish, Italian, and French are currently available). Additional language packs are available as in-app purchases: each one will cost you an additional $4.99. The developers say that those $4.99 prices are "introductory," so if you're interested, grab it now before the prices go up.
